Cottage Bar Chili Cook-off: 40 chances, one day

Saturday, Sept. 19, 3:15 (tasting begins) - 6:00 p.m.
When Labor Day is over, it becomes abundantly clear that the locals of the Greater Grand Rapids region are not ready to give up the joys of being outside in the sun. Saturday's return of the annual Cottage Bar’s 34th chili cook-off in downtown Grand Rapids from 3:15 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2015 helps extend the outdoor season.

This year's event is sponsored by Founders Brewing Company and will feature 40 different chili entries that will be judged by a panel comprised of area chefs and “foodies” (their word, not mine).

To keep the event festive and bright under the warm September sun, there will be live performances from local music acts The Concussions, Hannah Rose and Hank Mowry.

This community-focused, food-driven event will also benefit our local Grand Rapids White Water which is a part of the city's recently released waterfront improvement plan, GR Forward. (Adding link for people to review it here.)

“It’s so much fun to cook outside on the streets of downtown together—and then enjoy the food everyone has made afterward, beer in hand,” says John Green, Founders executive chairman, whose brewery has challenged participants to create a beer that pairs well with Founders' Dirty Bastard – one of the iconic brands of our local brewery. The winner of the pairing contest takes home a $100 Founders Gift card.
