36th Annual Homecoming: Three Fires Traditional Pow Wow

Saturday, June 13, 1 - 6 p.m. and Sunday, 12:00 p.m.
There are three kinds of folks in Grand Rapids when it comes time for the annual celebration of the Three Fires Pow Wow held at Riverside Park.

First, there are your friends who attend each year and report back about how amazing the event was and how much they learned.

Second, there are folks who, like me, hear about it from friends after the fact and kick ourselves that we missed it again.

And lastly, there are those who have no clue that the native people of this land we think of as Grand Rapids gather each year to honor the journey we are all on in this life.

Let's make a commitment to move past the busyness of our lives and take a moment this weekend to dive into the heritage of our First People's lives. There are plenty of opportunities at this event to enjoy a bite to eat or to buy things, like an array of Native American crafts and designs from a finely curated collection of vendors and musicians, but the real find is to be seated on the banks of our state's largest river, the Grand River, and to partake in a view that is truly amazing while hearing stories of a time before our own.

Let's make this weekend count by setting aside time to learn just a bit more of the history of this place.

Event Note: Organizers ask that you do not bring your dogs to the event and that you do not leave them in your car. Service dogs always welcome at the Pow Wow.
