Joshua Davis: One of us.

It was just a year ago that I was sitting at Shorts Brewing Company's tap room and there on the stage was my pal and musician Joshua Davis. Cost: Basically free but I had purchased a beer and a Mutilated Lips pizza from the popular beer hangout in Bellaire, Michigan.

This was to be the last time I would see him before he would land on America's TVs as a finalist in the wildly popular The Voice. (Before Davis would end up as the first runner up, his stellar rise was long in plan for years from a Michigan favorite seen on local stages like Wealthy Theatre to the world platform touring with another Michigan favorite, Jack White.)

Now making his way back to Grand Rapids, the popular singer/songwriter is here to put on a real show-stopper of a performance. And Fountain Street Church is where many will have the near-spiritual experience of hearing live what so many of us have enjoyed for many years (and much closer to the stage than I can get now).

Davis is the second act to appear on The Voice with roots in our home state of Michigan. And when he finally made it to the final round, we all felt like we were on that stage with him as he performed live before judges Maroon 5's Adam Levine and singer/songwriter Grammy Award Winner Sheryl Crow.

Davis is a concert not to miss. You can be sure that it will be a true folk singer homecoming fitting for a talent like his.

A portion of the concert proceeds go to benefit On Stage 4 Kids, an organization co-founded by Davis. On Stage 4 Kids brings Michigan musicians to Michigan schools, fostering an appreciation of live music and the history of American music.
