Professionally Developing the Next Generation: The final victory lap on this new series

A lot of folks will talk about diversity and inclusion and why it is important to our growing city but when it comes to the next steps, vacant faces often accompany vacant seats.

Here’s an exception: Over the years, BL²END (Business Leaders Linked to Encourage New Directions) has made it their mission to foster an environment where young professionals of color can grow and belong, and in doing so is changing the trajectory of our local professional community.

Wrapping up its freshly launched "Professionally Developing the Next Generation" speaker event series on Monday, November 9, the organization welcomes local powerhouse couple Executive Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church Dallas Lenear and Grand Rapids Third Ward Commissioner Senita Lenear.

Closing out the series, BL²END’s keynote speakers will showcase how they've impacted Grand Rapids through a lively night as this he said/she said format is sure to be as insightful as it will be laughable when two married folks share the stage. Both speakers will be showcasing how individuals can impact a community for the better and will encourage folks by the examples and stories they will share from their own history in our city.

But do not miss the other power center of this event: the chance to network with so many diverse individuals of our region who are seeking to advance the goals of BL²END – and, in doing so, break down the stereotypes we all must face every day in our lives.

It is rare to see an event get it so right for so long, but that is the power of BL²END in our city.
