Rick Chyme: (and his new friends)

Saturday, August 15, 9:30 p.m.
If you are seeking a truly high-energy night of positive hip-hop music led by one of the area's most innovative musical artists in our city, then the choice is clear: you have to get to Founders Taproom to see Rick Chyme and the line-up of friends on Saturday night. All the acts on the bill this night are musicians Chyme met over the course of the last year and a half.

"I met The B.E.A.T. at the Lamplight Music Festival and got to know them better as I traveled to their hometown of South Bend, IN for a performance," says Chyme. "Founders regulars may recognize this act's name as they opened up for us on the Founders Taproom stage just over a year ago." The B.E.A.T. is a three-piece that honestly sounds like seven at times, with lush instrumentation married to articulate and thoughtful lyrical content.

Chyme met Nick Leydorf during LaughFest in Grand Rapids and after his set talked about the possibility of him returning to a be a comedian at a music showcase. (In addition to being a comedian, Nick is a criminal defense attorney.)

Counterfeit Money Machine crossed paths with Chyme in South Bend and they got to know each other better during their travels to Ohio. Chyme, in meeting Money Machine, discovered that Cincinnati has been so welcoming to the art of music. We are lucky to get this act as they are on a busy summer tour but this date suddenly was open, enabling Chyme to get them on the Founders' stage.

Chyme gets what many others in the arts have figured out: that the best ambassadors of our music are often our artists who will network outside their region, taking a bit with them as they tour.

This night is a true Midwest collaboration, and Founders has emerged over the years as the center of this movement of locals and those outside our region mingling to change the perceptions of our city along the way.

"If all of that isn't enough to convince you to join us," says Chyme, "there is a good chance that we will release a three-song EP of new material on Saturday, 'U.N.I.T.S. 1', available for the first time ever."

Wondering what to do on Saturday night? Then the answer is clear, you 5iveit.
