Bazzani Associates adds new partner, VP of Operations Peter Skornia

Guy Bazzani and new Bazzani Associates partner and Vice President of Operations Peter Skornia have a lot in common.

"I've always been interested in the sustainable design portion of the building process – how do you work with the existing facilities so that you're not using up resources?" Skornia says. "I've always been interested in the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program since that started years ago."

A LEED Accredited Professional himself, Skornia first crossed paths with Bazzani while working as a consultant for Steelcase in a division interested in sustainable design. He was immediately drawn to Bazzani's respect and understanding for green building practices and the two kept in touch until this summer, when Bazzani invited him on board as partner and vice president of operations.

"I think what I bring in to supplement is the technology and process side," Skornia says. "So, I'm really getting into the day-to-day running of the company and bringing on new systems and things to help improve that process of communication with clients, with architects, contractors and the teams working with us."

Skornia comes with an extensive repertoire of national-level design and construction projects under his belt, including both new construction and renovation projects on office, residential, commercial, education and medical facilities. He joins Bazzani on the heels of eight years as a private commercial architecture and construction consultant, specializing in front-end project planning, scope development and budget management.

He says he's most looking forward to continuing Bazanni Associate's work in the urban revitalization of many downtown Grand Rapids neighborhoods.

"The previous projects that I've worked on have been around the country, they're far away," Skornia says. "They're great projects, but one thing I really love about this is that projects are close to home and there's an opportunity to do development that we maintain a role in."
