The Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) West Michigan initiative was designed to prepare West Michigan for a transition to a knowledge-based economy. So why are they now saying that manufacturing will be pivotal in the 21st century economy?
The WIRED study, Global Supply Chain Evolution Analysis Work Group, was recently released and some of its findings were surprising. The study determined that skill sets, including written and oral communications, negotiating, and foreign language skills should be part of West Michigan's workforce's preparation for global business. But after researching over 30 companies, the study also concluded that manufacturing is going to be a player.
