Los de Afuera: Salsa dancing in daylight

Sunday, Sept. 20, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
A live, large salsa band is a rare sighting locally when you consider the costs it takes to bring such an act to the stage (and pay them for their contribution).

But when you are the downtown’s -- heck, the Midwest's --  beer Mecca for the faithful, then it becomes a bit easier to bring in such big acts.

Never shying away from bigness these days, Founders' Taproom welcomes in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month our very own Los de Afuera for an early evening live music event complete with dancing.

Started by President Johnson, National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15 each year since 1968. This period of time is for communities around the states to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

In 2014, Juan Daniel Castro formed Los de Afuera, a band influenced by the sounds of salsa, merengue and Latin jazz (read: heavy on the horns).

Since their debut, this large, multi-nation local act has been popping up at various events, entertaining audiences with a musical style that is compared often to El Gran Combo and Gilberto Santa Rosa, as well as to Tito Puente, Juan Luis Guerra, and Oscar De León.

If the end of summer has you down, then I can think of no other place to be this Sunday. Join us as we say adios to the summer of 2015 with a fitting sound to lift your spirits up, preparing you for the cold, wet, and dark days of winter on our horizon.
