Life’s Connections, which began in January and focuses on health, education, literacy and socioeconomic needs, has partnered with “Turn the Volume Up On Peace” to hold a youth event for Martin Luther King Day in Grand Rapids.

“We want to make sure that our city is recognized on a national level with an event to raise awareness about this important issue,” says Executive Director Danielle Muncey-Key. She continues, “Our future lies in the hands of our youth. The stronger we make them now, the more sustainable our future becomes.”

The youth rally, in conjunction with others around the United States, will be a hip-hop conference to stop youth violence. The event will be held at Lifequest on Jan. 15. Three keynote speakers will address the guests at the top of each hour with performances sprinkled throughout.

“Opening our doors with this kick-off event will help to demonstrate our commitment to this community and its future,” expresses Director of Operations Thomas Gillespie. “It is perfect timing, and we couldn’t be more pleased.”

Other cities participating in the national campaign honoring the holiday include:
• Chicago, Illinois
• Kansas City, Kansas
• Las Vegas, Nevada
• Los Angeles, California
• Miami, Florida
• Missoula, Montana
• New Britain, Connecticut
• New York, New
• Reno, Nevada
