Trizophrenia with Jef Mallet – Frazz Creator’s Triple Track Mind
One of the joys of West Michigan is not only the area’s commitment to providing plenty of recreation space, but the plethora of sporting events that take place year round within the region.
For those sports-minded folks who are looking for an alternative to skiing or snowboarding, here’s a chance to hear Frazz cartoonist and author Jef Mallett speak about his new book, “Trizophrenia,” a work that celebrates the seemingly obsessive-compulsive rituals of the triathlete — or as Jef said during our phone interview, “exploring the Triple-Track-minded.”
The book in a very whimsical way explores the many aspects of training and racing in triathlons. Fans of the Lansing-based author’s critically acclaimed work from the comic strip Frazz will no doubt enjoy Mallett’s colorful anecdotes contained in one of the most honest and funniest books devoted to the training and rewards of the race.
And it is not just a book for those who want to understand and train for a race, but also a guide providing insight for those who find themselves shacked up with a triathlete. Mallett’s wife even weighs in on the topic, offering wonderful advice.
Humorous illustrations complement Mallett’s book, which is also littered with colorful footnotes that bring an added track…er…layer of enjoyment.
The best advice that Mallett was able to offer up to those thinking of starting any race training is the very same advice that he received at the very start: “Don’t think of the race as 26 miles, but think of it as running one mile….26 times.”
