If there ever was a group that deserved the old Virginia Slims slogan, “You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby,” the West Michigan Pride Celebration is definitely the one most deserving.  It appears as the years have rolled by that Grand Rapids finally understands another equally popular phrase: “They’re here, they’re queer, we’re used to it.”

All kidding aside, this event has really blossomed into a wonderful park party that highlights the diversity of this group that refuses to be pigeon holed.

The entertainment this year is equally diverse, with appearances by Kelly Carey with Rick Santamaria, the Grand River Squares, and the Dog Story Theater’s Rita and Velvet Dan.  Also returning is the rocking tunes of Gage and the Ben Walter with Notes 2 Myself.

An added bonus is that since this is a Kent County Park, organizers are able to serve alcohol so you can stroll over with that cocktail and play a round of Drag Queen Bingo.   There is even a kids and family area this year where the young and amazingly talented Kevin Weekley will be performing his breathtaking magic.
