In 2007,the Michigan touring Water Festival rolled into the G for an exciting day of music and inspirational (but short) speeches about all things water. At the end of this daylong event, local event organizers and environmental groups went to work on finding ways to go about bringing it back the next year.
Problem was this was a touring event. But under the guidance of many local folks, including former Clean Water Action organizer Kym Spring, the local version received the blessing from the touring production and the Grand Rapids Water Festival was born (again).
Now in its third year, the event is even bigger than ever. Local bands like Breathe Owl Breathe, Josh Davis, and Hawks and Owls along with organizations including West Michigan Environmental Action Council and Rain Gardens of West Michigan will be raising awareness about various environmental and water issues impacting our region.
Along with eco-friendly vendors selling sustainable items, there will be a number of activities for children including environmental songwriting and peace-flag making.
“The festival is all about bringing friends and families together who care about the environment, but also want to have a good time too,” Spring says.
