People always look at me funny when I tell them that I sell more artwork through my gallery in Holland than I do in Grand Rapids.  If you are not familiar with my art, let’s just say I am not shy about showcasing the body. The present truth of the matter is that Holland has evolved into a vibrant arts city, shaking off its reputation outside the region as being a sleepy conservative town,

Need further proof, then look at the fact this town is home not only to Tick Tock Studios (a working movie studio), the region’s first green hotel and the always entertaining and  never stuffy Park Theatre, where GR’s Super Happy Funtime Burlesque let it all hang out to sold out crowds.  The nightlife keeps getting better as new hot spots appear while old establishments reinvent themselves for generation Next.

The S Nightclub is one such place. It’s hosting a Foam Party where guests can dance the night away in their bathing suits as the dance floor is covered with massive amounts of bubbles to create foam to bump and roam in one of Holland’s most diverse nightclubs.

If you have never experienced a foam party, then maybe a call to dear old granny is in line since they have been around since the last century. In the 1932 film “A Rhapsody in Black and Blue,” jolly ol’ Louis Armstrong is seen singing, playing and dancing in a vast space filled with, you guessed it, soapsuds.

The modern take is a bit gentler, though, as the material now used is non-toxic and should not affect the color of your clothing.  Unlike the old foam parties of the past, the contemporary take has people in less clothing and dancing to a new sound than dear old granny isn’t  used to hearing.

So while it may be one of the last big parties before summer winds down, it will definitely not be an event for everyone.  Either way, it is still great to see the exciting events continue to evolve and change the way we view this lake town.
