Biotechnology and entrepreneurship with Tetra Discovery Partners, LLC

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Biotechnology startup Tetra Discovery Partners, LLC focuses on developing new treatment for depression, one of the world’s most prolific disorders.

“If the program is successful,” outlines Dr. Mark Gurney, the Tetra founder and president, “it will be 2-3 years from the idea to human clinical trials and then another six years after that.”

Gurney, an industry veteran, researcher and investor with experience in the startup process, took the first step on the long journey this summer with the launch of Tetra Discovery Partners.

Following “lean” startup principles, Gurney relies on several subcontractors and uses space and laboratory facilities in the WMSTI incubator at Grand Valley State University.

Funding for Gurney’s venture included a $700,000 SBIR award from the National Institutes of Mental Health and a $25,000 match from the Michigan Emerging Technologies Fund.
