Over the past five years, the Local First Street Party has grown in size as more people catch the spirit of supporting area businesses by purchasing locally made foods and brews, all enjoyed to the sound of area bands. For the sixth year, organizers are expecting more than 12,000 people to descend on the downtown streets of Weston and Grandville blocked off for the event.
While there will be plenty of great food from area restaurants and amazing brew provided by this year’s main sponsor, Founders Brewery, the real draw of this event is hands down the musical acts that will rock out with their…well, you get it, they will, they will rock you!
Before the headliner band, Mustard Plug attacks the stage a bit after 10 PM with the best ska horn section this side of the 1940s, other region friendly bands like Simien the Whale, the Lynn Thompson Band, Hard Lessons, the award winning DJ Super Dre and the Southpaw Players with Karisa Wilson.
Local First’s mission is to support area businesses, farms, and non-profit organizations all the while keeping an eye on the triple bottom line: economic viability, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility for the West Michigan region. In 2007, Local First had 150 members, but today their membership has blossomed into a beautiful 525-member roster of businesses and organizations.
Get downtown and go loco with the locals at the city’s best street party of the year!
