Throne of Trantor: A Rock Opera – We’re Not Worthy, We’re Not Worthy
Unless you have been asleep under a rock, the monumental ‘80s are roaring back in style on the backs of big hair, guitar riffs and pink, collars-up Lacoste shirts. If you need further proof, just stop by the Intersection the next time Mega 80’s are in town and you will soon be placed under the “keep feeling fascination” spell of parachute pants, permed hair and MJ’s signature “hee-hee” footwork. It is infectious, so why fight it.
One popular style to emerge out of the late 1970s and land happily in the decade of Ronnie was the Rock Opera. On Sunday night, the Dog Story Theater’s Spectacular Fantastic local music series will world premiere the progressive rock band Night Toucher’s rock opera “Throne of Trantor.”
According to band member Chris Eddy, this one-act musical fantasy will “blend Night Toucher’s complex, ever shifting music with choreographed movement to tell the story of a professor who becomes obsessed by legends of a demon cult and the horror that befalls him when he discovers their terrifying secrets.” Making their debut event truly exciting will be the guest appearance of the wildly talented members of the Super Happy Funtime Burlesque troupe.
“The costumes and music are all awesome,” adds DST co-founder Josh Fremer. “I can’t wait to see it all come together into a really incredible show.” If the past work of this theater is any indication, Grand Rapids is in for a fantastic night of theatrical art. Dog Story Theater is always BYOB, so pack your Bartles & James.
Admission: $6.
