Politics & Pints – Grab A Brew & Get In The Game!
The era of dividing our community into separate groups is officially over. In its place, a new generation is showing its interest in what we include and celebrate rather than what we exclude. This mind-altering act ultimately enriches our city’s future and makes us a community where all of us matter.
So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered for the first time the Politics and Pints event presented by the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce’s Friends of West Michigan Business – the region’s largest non-partisan political action committee.
This future leader-building (and networking) event has an impressive list of groups and people already signed up on their Facebook invite. Groups confirmed to be sending members to attend include the Grand Rapids Young Professionals, Grand Rapids Jaycees, Young Lawyers Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, MAP and BLEND.
“We are a community that continues to thrive thanks to the hard work and generosity — the selfless civic engagement — of a handful of leaders,” says Jeanne Englehart, president and CEO of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. “But the time always comes when the new generation of leaders needs to step up.” This is a great event for those looking to take those next steps in community leadership.
Besides a host of Grand Rapids young leaders who will be attending with business cards in hands will be State Representatives Dave Hildebrand, Justin Amash, Bob Genetski, and Brian Calley; Grand Rapids City Commissioners Rosalynn Bliss, Walt Gutowski and David LaGrand, and Kent County Commissioner Brandon Dillon.
If you cannot access the Facebook invite, please contact organizer Tara Walkotten for advance reservations at 616.771.0303
Admission: $20. (includes hors d’oeuvres, beer and sangria)
