Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School: Sweet Camilla Cupcake Debuts
It is hard to imagine that our local international chapter of Dr. Sketchy’s has just passed their 2-year mark, but as you leaf through the crowd-sourced sketch book that has been a part of the event since its beginning, it is evident we have come a long way and met many interesting models and personalities on the journey.
Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is a chance for people who love to draw or sketch to have access to a live model for a period of time and often with a more poses than offered in the classroom. The poses are often generated by suggestions from the members, referred to as Art Monkeys, who are put through a series of timed drawings where their works can win them fabulous prizes or shots.
This creative class community-building art event has been described in a New York Times article as “a cross between old-fashioned life-drawing sessions and new-wave cabaret.”
To add to the cabaret feel, the Super Happy Funtime Burlesque dancer Camilla Cupcake will not only be posing on stage for three hours, but she will be signing a poster from the event that will be presented to one lucky winner.
The lovely Vivacious Miss Audacious has hosted the event the first two years, but starting with the July 24 event, she will be co-hosting Dr. Sketchy’s with Dame Sarah Jean Anderson. Anderson is a local comic who will be celebrating her own one-woman show at the Dog Story Theatre on July 30.
Admission: $10.
