After the impressive crowds at last year’s debut event, it is no surprise that the 2nd Annual Great Lakes Irish Music Festival promises to be even bigger this year with an added bonus for attendees.
Besides the international renown acts that will take to the second base stage, fans of this all things Irish event are invited to participate in one of the many workshops devoted to Irish music, history and language.
But let’s face it, the music and dancing is why you will want to attend this popular one-day event. The event kicks off with an award winning rapid fire stepdance performance by Quinn’s Irish Dance and moves seamlessly through a diverse program ranging from the traditional Irish singers like the guest duo, Stephen’s Green, to the modern eclectic sounds of The Elders and the spirited humor of the Screaming Orphans.
Even the all Michigan Fenian’s Players will once again reconvene on the stage with the master of ceremonies straight from Ireland, Brendan Nolan, who will entertain with ballads and the spoken word.
Since this is an Irish event, no festival would be complete without a diverse sampling of the cuisine of the green isle. Guests will have a chance to purchase a wide range of traditional meal items including Irish bangers, a Guinness pot roast sandwich and even Irish Nachos.
The bonus at this year’s event is that the Fifth Third Ballpark is also the site of the Art in the Park fair from noon until 6 where art can be purchased at this non-juried show.
Admission: $12 for adults, children ages 3-12 are only $1 and for those under 3, it’s free.
