One of the best signs of an organization’s open and inclusive leadership style is not just who gets invited to the table but who is empowered to take the mission further in new and exciting ways.

The Spoke Folks is one of those local groups that figured out how to empower its leadership to imagine new ways of engaging their audience – Grand Rapids’ bike culture.

Keean Mansour, a co-founder and board member at the Spoke Folks, and Lauren Salinas, Spoke Folks’ volunteer event coordinator, have teamed up with Do-It-Together Grand Rapids, a group of individuals created to help create and promote concerts in the city, to host a very special concert event at the West Side co-op space.

What makes this show so fantastic is that it is an all-ages show, allowing fans of indie music an opportunity to hear an act without the fear of being turned away at the door.

Headlining at this first-time event are LVL UP and Mistki, two touring indie bands from New York. Local acts performing are Chalk Fight and Sandkings with Crooked Arrows opening up the show.

Two quick notes: First, know that Chalk Fight and SANDKINGS are both garage rock bands. Sandkings has a bit of a beach-meets-surf-y feel to their sound, while Crooked Arrows is a brand new group debuting at The Spoke Folks.  Second, be aware that, unlike other festivals The Spoke Folks have held in our city, this event is alcohol-free.

If it’s successful — and all signs indicate they will be this Saturday– we can be sure that The Spoke Folks will engage with new and emerging citizens in our city.

Admission: $5
