A prime piece of lakefront property could be transformed from restaurant to lakefront condos despite the beleaguered parcel’s recent history of opposition to development. Planning commissioners will review the proposal at an upcoming hearing.

According to excerpts from the story:

Developer Steve Davis has an option to purchase the Bil-Mar restaurant with the idea of turning the property into 20 lakefront condominiums.
Current owner Howard Meyer scrapped plans to expand the Grand Haven beachfront property into a restaurant and banquet hall in February because of the down economy. Meyer had to navigate a lawsuit filed by angry neighbors and was awarded permits from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

“We’re well aware in the last three or four years of some of the issues that are going on,” Davis said. The DEQ permits could be transferred, but the city would have to approve of the new plans, Davis said.
