Design Plus next year will move its headquarters to the Pike House at 230 East Fulton. The firm plans to spend $1 million to restore the property.

According to excerpts from the story:

Design Plus is buying The Pike House from J.T. French Co., which closed its doors in December after owner Jerry French retired. The move is expected to be completed by late this year after more than $1 million in renovations and restorations are completed.

“We really see it as a positive because of the kind of firm we are and the kind of commitment we’ve made to preserving a Grand Rapids historical landmark.”

Built in 1844 at 230 E. Fulton St. by Abraham Pike, a pioneering Grand Rapids businessman, the home was converted for Grand Rapids Art Gallery in 1924.
