Fifth Third Bank recently completed the renovation of its third floor, bringing to a close a ten-year project to renovate each of building's 12 levels. Renovations began when the bank, 111 Lyon, was Old Kent Bank. Fifth Third purchased Old Kent in April 2001.
Crews gutted the 16,000-square-foot space and rebuilt it to include an HVAC energy management system that controls air temperatures and lighting. Other 'green' features—energy efficient fluorescent lighting, occupancy sensors, recyclable carpet, and natural light from four walls of windows—will help contain energy consumption and enhance the work environment.
Approximately 50 employees work on the third floor, including the human resources department and bank executives. The renovation includes the addition of thirty-five new offices, three conference rooms, a lobby/waiting area, and handicap accessible restrooms.
"As we've been renovating the floors we've added a state-of the-art fire protection system throughout the building," says Al Druckenmiller, bank spokesperson.
Druckenmiller declined to comment on the total cost of the project.
Wolverine Building, Inc., was the general contractor for the project.
