Norman Family Dentistry has operated for 20 years out of offices in the rear of a former Victorian home at 517 Ada Drive in Ada. But the recent addition of two doctors has them bumping elbows.
"Two years ago we added an orthodontist," said Katie Fish, vice president of operations. "He uses the office when we're not here because that's the only time space is available to him. Then last September Dr. Julie Glud joined us."
To solve the problem, owner Dr. Devin Norman, decided to expand into a new 12,000-square-foot facility. They broke ground on the facility last December.
The new office at 519 Ada Drive will have nine patient treatment areas complete with monitors, so patients can watch TV or videos while having work done. A fully enclosed private treatment area for patients whose treatment requires a longer appointment will have a seating area so patients can get out of the dentist's chair and relax. Digital X-ray capabilities will be added, which reduce radiation levels by 90% compared to traditional X-rays.
Employee facilities include an on-site laundry so employees can change out of their uniforms when leaving to avoid taking contaminants home with them.
Two-thirds of the lower level will be occupied by the dental office; the remaining space and the 6,000-square-foot second level will be available for retail or office tenants. The project will be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified. The investment is expected to run about $2 million. Dixon Architecture designed the building; First Companies is the general contractor.
