Holland’s Downtown Place 75 percent sold

An urban condo project in Holland’s downtown core has hit the 75 percent sold mark after successfully moving 21 of the 28 units—10 of those in 2007 alone.

Builders completed Downtown Place Condominiums in 2003, just in time for them to hit the market in the midst of the housing slump. But realtor Larry Kleinheksel of Coldwell Banker Woodland Schmidt says that a marketing push and the allure of the city’s character have spurred buyers to pull out their checkbooks.

“The condos are just a short walk from over 100 unique retail shops and restaurants,” Kleinheksel says. And downtown is becoming nicer and nicer. Our downtown development authority has different events and entertainment, new restaurants, and eight blocks of unique retail that's really taken off, so people now want to live close to downtown because they see what's happening.”

Downtown Place developers Kris DePree, Tom Postma, and Scott Nykerk were inspired by the Holland downtown business district to install a snow melt system. The downtown area installed their system under the business district’s sidewalks and roadways some years ago.

“One resident says she can walk a five-mile loop around the condos and downtown and never touch snow,” Kleinheksel says.

The remaining seven condos are one- and two-bedroom residences with exposed brick walls and 10-foot ceilings. Many have granite countertops, and all have balconies overlooking downtown or Window on the Waterfront Park.

Ranging in square footage from 1,350 to 1,600, the condos carry price tags from $190,000 to $320,000.
