The House Hop on October 20 and 21 is more than just an opportunity for house hunters and property investors to see great houses in two of Grand Rapids most progressive neighborhoods. Free workshops covering a variety of topics from tax incentives to sustainability will provide an educational component to help homebuyers and homeowners discover a variety of ways to make smart home investments.
The East Hills and Midtown neighborhood associations, the Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF), and area Realtors collaborated to make the House Hop a reality.
The workshops, scheduled for 12:00 to 5:00 on Saturday, will cover first-time homebuyers, tax credits for historic preservation, green development, business development, and area investment properties. Local experts knowledgeable about Midtown and East Hills will teach the workshops at the newly renovated ICCF building at 920 Cherry.
"The workshops are intended to demystify the home buying process and spur continued business development and investment in the hottest growing areas of the city," says Philip Chaffee, owner of Harmony Homes Realty and chair of the Historic Preservation Commission. "The House Hop is being held to increase public awareness about the benefits of living and investing in the East Hills and Midtown neighborhoods, which are just minutes from downtown."
The real estate open houses planned for 1:00 to 4:00 on Sunday provide an opportunity for investors and homebuyers to see first-hand the variety and quality of homes available in the two neighborhoods. The homes will be clearly marked, and maps to each home will be available at each residence.
