$5 million restoration of historic DA Blodgett building ground breaking

Developers today will break ground on a unique project to restore the DA Blodgett Home for Children. The Blodgett building will undergo a $5 million renovation and become the headquarters of the Inner City Christian Federation. ICCF is a Grand Rapids based non-profit housing developer.

Located at 920 Cherry, the Blodgett Home was built in 1908 in a Classical Revival style. But careless additions in the 1950’s and 1970’s hid many of the home’s unique features and beauty. The later additions have been demolished over the past month.

That restoration will include rehabbing the original façade and the restoration of the formal public gardens. The groundbreaking ceremony also marks the final leg of ICCF’s $8 million capital campaign. To date, the organization has raised $6 million for the project.
