New antiques broker expects to grow in Creston

Fine antiques, reproduction furniture pieces, and glassware are just a few of the passions collectors can indulge in at Patina’s Antiques, 1415 Plainfield NE. The 2,200-square-foot space features tin ceilings that are original to the 1924 structure.

“We provide spaces for antiques vendors to sell their wares,” said owner Karen Brant. “The spaces are 10-ft. x 10-ft and smaller, and rent for $2 a square foot.”

The store also offers a limited number of consignment pieces, primarily vintage clothing, painted antique furniture, lamps, art, frames, and vases. It opened in mid-December with three antiques vendors on board, and has space for up to seven more.

Brant’s daughter, Lori, got her interested in antiques and is helping with the store until Karen can retire and get more involved. Both women are intent on bringing in dealers who have a passion for high-end antiques such as “English mahogany, engraved, and marble-topped” pieces, Lori said.

“We felt that [the Creston neighborhood] was a nice area,” Karen added. “We think there is room for a lot of growth, we think that growth is coming soon, and we wanted our store in there before that happens.”

Karen said the surrounding retailers—a furniture store, drapery store, a women’s consignment clothing store, a restaurant—and Patina’s Antiques complement each other and will draw customers who want a unique shopping experience.

Plenty of free parking is located behind the building. Store hours are Mondays and Thursdays, 12-5, and Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 10-5.
