New Storefronts, Condos coming to former East Hills Car Lot

The old Koning Car Company lot, located at the corner of Wealthy and Diamond, is set to become a new three-story multi-use development in the East Hills neighborhood. The project, known as Uptown Village, will feature 10,000 square feet of street level commercial space topped with 24 rental units priced for low-income residents.

The project, scheduled to break ground in July, also calls for construction of new town homes on Sigsbee Street as well as the addition of parking and green space. Midwest Housing Corporation, the project manager, also will transform the existing 6,500 square feet commercial space into condos. The project will move in phases, with construction of the town homes following the completion of the new storefronts on Wealthy. The project is expected to take one year to complete.
