Who is Harvey? Elwood Dowd calls him a best friend. Others refer to him as a Pooka (from old Celtic mythology). Many remember him as a white rabbit, measuring over six feet in height. One thing is for certain: Harvey is the most endearing character you will ‘never’ see.
Now taking Grand Rapids Civic Theatre Stage for the first time, Harvey will bring a smile to new audiences and old friends. The Pulitzer Prize-winning American classic will premiere Jan. 13 and run throughout the month.
Elwood P. Dowd is a man with a most unique best friend -- a tall, talking rabbit named Harvey. The problem? Only Elwood can see or hear Harvey, leading Elwood’s family, friends and doctors to the conclusion he must be crazy! This light-hearted production spotlights humorous miscommunications and exaggerated situations to bring the audience to a witty and heart-warming ending.
If you haven’t seen the television commercial yet for the production, you are missing out. Several notable community advocates have seen Harvey in the Grand Rapids area lately, including Rapid Growth Media’s very own Tommy Allen as well as Mayor George Heartwell. You can view the promo spot

This play has a long history in theaters across the nation and will, in fact, see a second Broadway revival in May 2012 starring Jim Parson (Big Bang Theory) as Dowd.
