It can be frightening when you have an unexpected pregnancy. One could feel panic and hopelessness and even lonely, with hundreds of questions going through your mind and not nearly as many answers. The Pregnancy Resource Center is there for those needing assistance -- both in answering questions and in resources. It’s an agency that has been serving Grand Rapids for more than 26 years.
But what do you know about the Pregnancy Resource Center?
"Whether it's counseling, providing baby clothes and formula, or just being a friend during a time of need, the Pregnancy Resource Center believes it is our Christian duty to demonstrate God's love,” answers Executive Director Jim Sprague.
Did you know:
• They distribute more than 89,000 infant and children items throughout the community for those in dire need?
• Nearly 7,000 people visited the agency for their numerous services last year?
• The Center taught abstinence classes to nearly 5,000 students in 2010?
• There are 40 people consistently on a waiting list for an infant crib?
This humble nonprofit organization has been working hard.
"I have learned that God speaks to me through others, especially those of you who helped me during a difficult time,” gleams one very happy young lady who found assistance with the Pregnancy Resource Center.
Their services are free. And they rely on donations from the community to support their efforts. It’s been a year with increased need in many areas and they currently have an urgent need for the following items:
• shampoo, lotion, baby wash
• bottles & sippy cups
• diaper bags
• cribs (new), crib mattresses
• pack-n-plays (new or gently used)
This organization is putting the good back in do-gooder and they hope you will to. Here’s how:
