For years, governments and well-intended individuals and organizations have been providing billions of dollars to countries with people living in extreme poverty. It’s truly an honorable and generous action to take during times of emergency, and one that is certainly needed.
However, have you ever seen a country become prosperous on financial and food aid? What makes a country thrive? How do people living in poverty go from living on aid to living self-sufficiently?
These are the types of questions PovertyCure asks.
“We need to have heart for the poor, but we also need a mind for the poor,” explains Michel Miller, spokesperson for the organization. Doing something to alleviate poverty is a band-aid. Doing something to create an environment of prosperity is a cure. PovertyCure is rethinking the solution.
This nonprofit organization has created a network of 100+ partners around the globe to debate the issue and find answers to some of the questions. What they have discovered are these fundamental principles in combating poverty:
• Access to private property rights
• Rule of law and justice for all
• Freedom to start a business
• Free exchange and free markets
PovertyCure seeks to find ways to secure these rights for all people, and there are many theories and solutions being considered. “We need to shift the way we look at the issue. All people have dignity,” emphasizes Miller. Once this happens, the momentum begins.
PovertyCure is building that momentum with a growing global network of partners, developing a comprehensive website and building a video curriculum filled with experts on the issues. Finding out more about what the organization is doing to cure poverty is as simple as a mouse click. Here’s how:
