Michigan's Green Is Golden - G-Sync

G-sync Editorial for 7/10/09

By Tommy Allen

While I was backstage at the Rothbury Festival moments before musician Ralston Bowles was being introduced, it hit me why I love Michigan in the summer.

I heard the fans go totally electric with applause when they caught a glimpse of Ralston starting for the center of the Odeum Stage, but it wasn't until I passed around the stage's flowing crimson drapes that I was able to see the cheering crowds first hand. It was Michigan -- its enthusiastic people, rich blue sky, lush green trees, bracing clean air -- the perfect venue for a summer concert..

This week I am dedicating the entire week’s G-Sync to the open-sky entertainment that our region has to offer and challenge our local events and attendees to commit to make our events greener.  I think as the environmentally sound Rothbury Festival exits out area, it is high time to begin to put into practice the simple principals for greening our events in West Michigan.

We already have a great reputation for our commitment to greener ventures in our building community so why not expand upon them into other areas?

Should you find yourself on Sunday night with nothing to do between 10 PM and midnight, please tune into WYCE (88.1 FM) where I will be spinning an audio roller coaster ride on The Guest List with Michael Cunningham. If my musical soundtrack is like anything my life, it should be interesting.  I might even do a Courtney Love karaoke lullaby to close out the night.

Enjoy the good vibrations and as always,

Choose Local….and often.
