G-Sync – The Gospel of Small Acts

A few weeks ago, I noticed someone's Facebook newsfeed encouraging people to slow down and take the challenge of inviting one person that they barely know from their list of "friends" out for a drink.

My first reaction was, "Right, like I have time to add something like this to an already full schedule." But as the weeks went by, I was impressed to see a few people had started to take up the offer.

This simple, yet small, act of initiating dialogue within our community really struck a cord with me since it is how many of us have formed friendships for years.

But in a Facebook world, this timeless act of making friends, now reduced to just clicking a button to add someone, has in the traditional sense, found little time nowadays in our busy schedules.

While it is also not fair to expect that we could possibly invite everyone we do not know very well from our ever-growing Facebook Friends list out for a drink, this should not be the reason why we stop trying to make room in our schedule for real-time connections.

I felt validated about my new religion of small moves after reading a quote by Dr. Maoshing Ni who said when it comes to change, we only need to work with "the schedule you have, the relationships you have and the health you have, exactly as they are, only adding small changes little by little."

So as you look over the list of events this week, which are full of huge crowd pleasers, but also small acts of creativity, the commonality is that in the scheme of life, they are all tiny steps that add up to big movements.

I believe this time I'll invite a friend to join me on one of these adventures.  Are you up for the challenge?
