As we are just a day away from the unofficial start of the summer, probably the top item on your to-do list at work is to reach home without getting tangled in a traffic jam so you can pack for the Memorial Day weekend.
And with each passing year, we get more powerful electronic ways to connect with others as we go on our journeys -- Twitter, Facebook, Skype, even old fashioned e-mail. It's almost like packing family or friends with us, minus having to share a room with them at our beachside retreat.
Through the miracle of modern electronics, we also can record our favorite traveling tunes at the push of a button and send them to just about anyone on the planet within reach of Wi-Fi.
At our house right before a departure on any major road trip, I always make a beeline for the computer and load up the iPod or burn a CD of music. It is a tradition borne out of the mixtape that continues happily into the digital age.
Just like clockwork, my Michael pops his head in the room impatiently tapping his Swatch as I struggle to find the right balance of cool and yet fun music.
"Making another soundtrack for your life," he says with just the right amount of sarcasm.
Actually, I am, and, why not?
Maybe it comes from watching those "Say Yes To Michigan!" commercials produced over the years that espoused our state's beauty, all to swelling strains of background music.
So here's my first TommyGsync
iTunes playlist that you may enjoy as you shove off on this upcoming first day of summer, regardless of what the astronomers say. It may not be Pure Michigan, but it is Pure Tommy.
Given the current heat trends, summer in Michigan will be long, but thank God so is my playlist.
Enjoy!
