Going green will save Spartan $1.7 million in 2007

Adopting a ‘green,’ or sustainable, business philosophy is becoming increasingly popular across west Michigan because it helps companies cut costs and boost profits.

Spartans Stores, for example, is modernizing lighting systems and reducing energy use at 89 stores across Michigan and Ohio. Spartan officials estimate the moves will save the company as much as $1.4 million in 2007 alone.

Meijer, Haworth, and Rockford Construction also stand among the growing number of local companies adopting the principles of sustainability to maintain and increase their competitiveness.
