Excerpts from the story:

A total of 25 outstanding design projects created by west Michigan architectural firms vied for an award at the American Institute of Architects Grand Valley Chapter’s 2005 Honor Awards program.

Four projects earned recognition in the Building Design category. The first award went to Progressive AE for its work on DeVos Place.

The designing of the new convention center on a 13-acre urban site was no easy task, especially considering the site had severe subsurface geological conditions and is bordered by primary streets and a river. The river and its rapids inspire the overall architectural form.
