Passion + opportunity = dream job at Komen West Michigan

Jennifer Jurgens says her position as the new Executive Director of Komen West Michigan is a dream job.

Jurgens has an extensive background in the private sector and a history of service work including TEDxGrand Rapids, Laughfest, and several events tied to cancer education, research, and awareness. "My mother passed from breast cancer when she was 36 and I was 12. As I was building my professional  career, my spare time was [spent] in volunteer service for cancer related projects. When this opportunity came along, it allowed me to continue to do the things I am doing and am passionate about, but make a career out of it."

One of Jurgens' earliest priorities will be organizing the annual Race for the Cure. "It is our biggest fundraiser. It takes place every September with 5000 runners and walkers. I am a runner myself and was the first survivor to win the race in 2011, so I am really excited to reinvigorate the race this year."

As Executive Director, Jurgens will be responsible for managing all aspects of the locate affiliate office. She will also serve as the spokesperson for the affiliate on both a national and local level, and will be responsible for bringing information regarding breast cancer research and resources back to West Michigan. She will report directly to the Komen West Michigan Board of Directors.
