In the world of commercial development, the majority of projects are fairly traditional. However, there is a West Michigan firm "adding" a little eclecticism to the local scene.
The Urban Renaissance Group is a development and management team with over 40 years experience. Its latest project is designed to add something new to the Grand Rapids food and entrepreneurship scene.
According to Nicolas Mika, co-founder, their new project,
Morrison's Addition, will be a series of unique eateries housed in temporary shipping containers on the corner of Wealthy and Fuller in East Hills.
The vision is to "add something new" to the food scene without directly competing with other neighborhood food establishments. Besides providing a new food experience, Morrison's Addition will allow entrepreneurs a low cost, low overhead opportunity to test out their dining concept without the expense of a brick and mortar building or even a food truck.
Mika is quick to add that there a few hurdles left for Morrison's Addition to become a reality, including a June planning meeting with the city. However, the response has been positive in several preliminary discussions and he remains confident that this concept will be given a green light.
With projects like Morrison's Addition driving growth, The Urban Renaissance Group is also looking to add talent to its team. Three new positions are listed on their website

Since pictures are worth a 1000 words, Mika identifies three sources of inspiration for the development: the use of containers in
Christchurch, New Zealand, the
DeKalb Market in Brooklyn and
Proxy in San Francisco.
