The Local Epicurean, food enthusiasts in West Michigan can add fresh, handmade pasta to their shopping list when creating "made-in-Michigan" gourmet meals.
The business, which opened in December of 2011, has a tagline of "wild food for urban people" and features over 70 different type of handmade, organic pasta, plus a variety of homemade sauces, seasonings and hand-churned infused, organic butters.
According to Steve Bowyer, co-founder, the essence of their business is a commitment to making small batch pastas by hand, using primarily Michigan grown products. "We use only organic ingredients, sourced locally. All herbs and flour for the pasta are organic," Bowyer says. "The pasta is made and cut by hand."
The Local Epicurean now employs 10 people and has distribution through seven farmers markets (including Fulton Street), specialty retailers such as Harvest Health Food, online and at its brick-and-mortar store in Eastown.
