After their business almost ground to a halt following the economic downturn in 2009, Scherdel Sales & Technology, Inc., is hitting its groove again.
Located in Muskegon, the advanced manufacturing firm has added 18 jobs, primarily in production, in the past year. The company continues to look for individuals who are both skilled machine operators and interested in a career, not just a job.
Margaret Eastley, VP of finance and HR for the firm, says they are very competitive with wages and benefits and value individuals pursuing careers as machine operators and who who are motivated to grow with the company. "We have very little turnover and are here for the long haul," she states.
Although the business has been in Muskegon for only 12 years, their German parent company has been around for 130 years, something which also has a strong influence on the organization's culture.
"A quarter of staff is German," Eastley says. "We have a very diverse mix of people and many different opinions. Germany is very free thinking. Opinions and ideas about the company are valued. That is how we grow."
Scherdel Sales & Technology participates in a wide variety of local and regional initiatives to identify talent and train employees in advanced manufacturing processes.
