WMCAT hires new teen program director

The West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology (WMCAT) welcomes Becca Guyette to their team as the Teen Program Director. Prior to joining WMCAT, Guyette worked on a variety of programming at UICA, but with the new position, her focus will now be on the programs she is most passionate about.

"At UICA, I had always worked on the teen programming, but with their transition, I took on different roles, too. I really wanted to focus on teen programming, where I can make the highest impact."

Guyette says she will be expanding the day classes at WMCAT and also introducing new after-school programming.

"With the after-school students, we are going to focus on design thinking," she says.

Guyette says student design teams will work on local problems that need a creative solution by using the design thinking process, which will be facilitated by trained staff.

Guyette has an impressive background in developing programming for the arts. She holds a B.A. in Visual Arts Education with an emphasis in metal and jewelry design from Grand Valley State University. In 2011, she was a key contributor to the UICA's teen program, receiving the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, the Nation's highest honor for out-of-school arts programs.
