It was inevitable. One of the oldest traditions known to mankind now has a high tech interface.
Conpoto.com is a site where someone can buy a drink for another person. The tech twist is that someone can now do it without having to leave their home computer, laptop or smartphone.
"The benefit for our customers is that you can treat your friend to a beer or a cup of coffee," says Ryan Nelis, co-founder of the site. It's a way of saying, 'hey, I am thinking of you, or congratulations!' It's much more meaningful than a gift card," he adds.
The site allows someone to purchase a beverage from participating restaurants and coffee shops. The beverages arrives via email, which the recipient can print out and redeem for a drink, or they can use their smart phone to achieve the same result.
Nelis says the name for their venture, which he started with Matt Lepard, is Latin for "drink together."
Nelis indicates that response from restaurants has been very positive. Their first customer,
Brewery Vivant, already has a chalkboard set up in the entrance with the names of the sender and recipient written out as an added recognition of the gesture.
