National non-profit targets West Michigan women entrepreneurs

Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW) was selected by national non-profit Count Me In to spearhead a program designed to help women-owned business increase their sales.

The business accelerator program is called BLAST! and it will kick off Oct. 7 and 8. According to Tom Heinz, program manager at GROW, the program is designed to take these businesses and grow them to approximately $250,000 in sales. "Any time a national entity targets West Michigan and wants to help a businesses owner to expand their business, it's a big deal," he says.

There are two criteria that exist for participation. The first is that women need to be in business for at least two years; the second is they must have annual gross revenue between $50,000 and $150,000.

Key dates for the program participation are Oct. 7 and 8. A 1.5-day conference is scheduled where up to 50 women-owned businesses will be selected as finalists for the business accelerator program.
