Google famously has a policy that allows their engineers to take 20% of their time to work on projects of their choice, resulting in more creativity and innovation in their workforce.
West Michigan-based marketing and advertising firm the
Highland Group has "extra credit" projects designed to flex their creative muscles that "feed the entrepreneurial spirit," says Highland's Jennifer Crowley.
Their latest extra credit project resulted in the launch of
Zeggio, an online project management tool designed to improve the collaborative and management process for small businesses.
"Zeggio was built with small business owners in mind," states Crowley. "It unifies your projects, deals, address book, files, notes and to-dos, all so you can be more confident and in control. You'll know what's due when, who's responsible and how much you've accomplished already."
Although there are several online project management tools on the market, Crowley is confident that through their development process, they identified specific opportunities for improvement -- all focused on the perspective of the small business owner.
As for the name, Crowley anticipated this question and addressed the challenging naming process in a blog post
here.
