Heart of the Lakes Center for Land Conservation Policy (
Heart of the Lakes) Board of Directors will be hiring an Executive Director in 2013.
According to Julie Stoneman, interim executive director, it is a new position with quite a bit of flexibility for the new hire. "There currently is no designated office space. The preference would be Lansing, but someone certainly could work from home or set up an office where they live."
Stoneman says the organization has a unique role in coordinating the 34 land conservancies in Michigan. "The Heart of the Lakes was founded by land conservancies to be their eyes, ears, and collective voice in Lansing -- to ensure they have the policy tools and resources needed to do their work of permanent land protection," Stoneman says. "Unlike land conservancies, Heart of the Lakes does not protect land, per se, but provides coordination and support for the entire conservancy community across the state."
Heart of the Lakes was founded in 2004. In the past, the organization relied on contracted staff. The new position is a move to a direct staff. Stoneman says the new executive director has the opportunity to build their own staff or to continue the relationship with the previous agency that coordinated the work. It is anticipated that the new executive director will be in place in early spring 2013.
