Suburban GR company relocates downtown, brings 75 employees

ProCare Systems Corporation is a medical practice management corporation with a nice office near Centerpointe Mall. But the business needs room to grow, so it's heading downtown and bringing 75 employees along.

Last week, the Downtown Development Authority awarded ProCare a $50,000 Building Reuse Incentive Program grant to restore a five-story, 25,000-square-foot building at 61 Commerce.

"We continue to grow," says CEO Cyndy Walsh. "We're going to use the top four floors for our company. But we're still trying to decide if we're going to lease the first floor or keep it for future expansion. We bought the building because our company is now large enough [to own a building], and we didn't want to be at tenant."

As healthcare industry leaders like Spectrum Health, Saint Mary's Health Care, and the Van Andel Institute add services and take on more patients, Walsh is optimistic about increased demand for ProCare's services. Those services include medical billing, scheduling, accounting, administering benefits, public relations, and information technology systems.

"We want a presence in that landscape downtown," she says. "We want to be part of what's happening."

Walsh expects the $2.7 million historic restoration will begin in July and take about eight months to complete.
