$4M Grand Rapids' software developer launches revolutionary file sharing innovation

By: Deborah Johnson Wood

Grand Rapids-based Pelco Solutions has launched an innovative web-based file sharing tool that the company expects will revolutionize the way companies do business. The software, called Share, provides an easy and secure method to send and receive digital files of any size.

In comparison to using File Transfer Protocol (FTP), which requires special knowledge and can be cumbersome for average users, or sending large files via e-mail, which brings e-mail delivery to a screeching halt, using Share is as easy as using the Internet. In fact, Pelco can integrate the software with a company's web site. And projects loaded to Share are available globally 24/7 through an Internet connection.

"You sign up, create a project, add a client's name to the project, and they are notified automatically by email that they've been added," says Paul La Vigne, solutions engineer. "When new files are loaded to the project, a link is sent. It's a powerful way a whole team can view the project online, rather than e-mailing the file to each individual team member."

Other advantages are that employees can download project files, revise them, and upload the new version—and the original stays on the site for comparison. The software even customizes files with a company's logo and colors.

"I can be at a tradeshow and walk up to a kiosk, log in, and check on my project," La Vigne says. "I can send you a 500MB QuickTime video, and you don't have to come to my office, or we can work from places located across the country from each other."
