South Bend company creates 7 jobs opening Michigan store

In February, South Bend, Indiana-based American Furniture Depot launched its first wholesale furniture store in Wyoming, only to outgrow the space in less than a year. After a recent move to Walker, and a larger space of some 16,000 square feet, the company is hiring four new people to add to the three employees already on staff.

"We need two more sales people who will be managers in training, and another warehouse person," says Steve Miller, regional manager. "The pay is based on experience. Managers can earn $30,000 a year and up."

The company looks to open other locations in Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois, and to have qualified, trained employees who can move to management positions for those stores.

"Our timing is relative to market conditions and having qualified personnel to open the stores," Miller says. "We can't grow if we don't have the personnel to grow. The only thing holding us back is getting the proper talent trained and ready to manage another store."

Chip Hurley of Grubb & Ellis Paramount Commerce brokered the transaction for the move to the Walker location.
