Huntington creates 114 call center jobs in Holland, 64 more than expected

Huntington National Bank-West Michigan announced in May 2007 an expansion at its Holland customer service call center and the creation of 50 new jobs. Since then, the company has created an additional 64 positions, bringing the number of new jobs to 114.

"We had an incredible response with highly qualified candidates," says Michael Lindley, bank spokesperson. "That moved our management team to contact our other call center in Columbus, OH and move 64 of those jobs here to Michigan. We have a higher retention level in this market, so that's another reason we decided to move the jobs here."

After a period of intensive training, each call center employee becomes a banker capable of opening IRAs, checking and savings accounts, and handling loans. Because the center offers flexible hours, many of the new employees are college students who need a job they can schedule around classes.

The bank requires one year of customer service experience in retail or restaurant work, and a high school diploma. Pay starts at $10.14 per hour with an additional 4 percent to 8 percent ($0.41 - $.80/hour) shift differential for shifts worked between 5 PM and 10 PM.

"We're finding this is a good starting ground for a lot of employees to get into banking," Lindley says. "We see many employees move into banking roles or staff roles in the regional office."
